everyone at Deerfield is very pleased with the accomplishment.
The
San Francisco Chronicles Wine Competition is the world's largest
competition for US wines, with over 4,200 wines entered.
Best of Class is quite a prestigious award.

Here's
the state of our art and our passion.
DRX is
a Meritage, which means that it is made exclusively from Bordeaux
varietal grapes. We have vineyards in Sonoma, Napa and Clear
Lake providing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc,
Malbec and Petit Verdot for this blend, as they have done
for many years.
By the
time the wine is in the bottle we, the winemakers, have tasted
it thousands of times. The individual lots imprint on us with
their special flavors and characters. When we examine and
taste from the barrels in the cave we carry chalk to write
notes on individual barrels, something about the wine or the
process. Those barrels that were the best in each lot got
an "X" for eXceptional. This is where the X in DRX
comes from. This Meritage is made from just the exceptional
barrels. We make the component wines separately, age them
for 18 months to two years, do the blend by taste and then
return the blend for a third year or more of barrel aging.
After the 2001 DRX was bottled it was aged in the bottle for
three years.
You
say you don't have a cellar to age exceptional wines? Well,
we've done it for you. Release Price: $85.00

RED
REX has
been a hit since it was released in early 2006. The 2002 and
2003 vintages sold out quickly. Luckily the 2004 vintage is
ready and has been released. Click
Here to put in an order. At a suggested retail of $25.00
per bottle it is a real buy (a few dollars
more in some out of California markets). This is what the latest
review says about RED REX:
“It’s
deep and dark with great blackberry fruit. Mellow tannins and
a wonderful soft and lingering cedar finish make this wine everything
you would want in a bottle costing $30.00.”

Robert
hasn't finished the fact sheet for the 2004 RED REX. However,
the 2003 fact sheet provides a lot of information about this
wine.
RED
REX Fact Sheet
We've
also updated our fact sheet locator to make it easier to find
fact sheets on all of our wines. You can find it here: Fact
Sheets, or roll over the "Wine" cork above and
release on "Fact Sheets"
And,
if you try RED REX and you think it is good, then try our other
wines, they are all exceptional, many a step up from Red Rex.

2004
Red Rex
This
“cooks” blend of Meritage varietals with Syrah and touch
of Sangiovese, is the second vintage of our wildly popular Red Rex.
We had the Red Rex paired at dinners we did in New York and Bermuda
recently and it showed remarkable depth and dimension. It changed
with each pairing. Some entrées made it taste round and plump,
others linear and structured. “Delicious” was the descriptor
most often heard.
2002
Super T-Rex
The
2002 Super T-Rex, a Tuscan style blend of 71% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet
Franc, 10% Cabernet and 4% Dolcetto has a bit more Cab Franc than
did the 2002 vintage. This gives the wine more thrust in the upper
palate, taking flavors and aromas into your nasal cavity like chocolate.
It’s a bit fuller, more fruit forward and a bit darker than
the ’01 Super T-Rex. It was almost three years in the barrel
and over a year in the bottle. (We'll have a fact sheet soon)
2003
Cabernet Sauvignon, Los Chamizal Vineyards, Sonoma Valley
This
Cabernet is an individual-row-select field blend from Peter Haywood’s,
Los Chamazal Vineyard, It is one of the premier hillside vineyards
in Sonoma Valley and Peter is one of Sonoma’s best growers.
The blend is 80.2% Cabernet selected from three separate sections,
one giving the blend raspberry flavors, the second giving it mid palate
body, the third giving it depth and structure. Merlot, 10.5%, comes
from a very steep section and is one of the fullest flavored Merlots
we have ever picked. Cabernet Franc, 9.2%, from a rocky knoll, makes
the flavors soar. (We'll have a fact sheet soon)
2003
Ladi's Cuvée
We’ve
done Meritage, Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah from Ladi’s Vineyard,
all amongst our favorite wines, rich beyond expectation and perfectly
balanced. Ladi’s Cuvée (French for wine blend) marries
the three dominant varietals from Ladi’s Vineyard into a perfect
expression of his talent and our art. The flavors of the Cabernet
and Syrah play on each other, bringing out nuances that neither seems
to express on their own. Add Merlot from the same terroir and a symphony
is created. The blend is 71% Cabernet, 16% Syrah and 13% Merlot. Aged
2 1/2 years in artisan coopered barrels; it is ready to enjoy. Tasters
of this wine have been blown away. (We'll have a fact sheet
soon) |
